Non-surgical injectable fillers, such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, are extremely popular in Grapevine, Southlake, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dermal fillers can be an important element in your comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation. Many of the people who come to 2301 Plastic Surgery get fillers to smooth the fine lines and wrinkles that make them look older than they feel. Others want to plump up the lips or cheeks for a more youthful appearance.
Good Candidates for Dermal Fillers
Aging’s effects accumulate over time, eventually resulting in deep wrinkles, sagging skin, and discoloration. But long before you get to that point, the subtle signs of aging begin to appear. Dermal fillers are an excellent option if you’re concerned about looking older but are not ready for facial plastic surgery.
Dermal Filler Benefits
These versatile products are used to provide a variety of benefits including:
- Smoothing away static wrinkles and nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Restoring facial volume
- Shaping and plumping up the lips (lip fillers)
- Reducing under-eye hollows (tear trough filler)
- Contouring the chin and jawline
- Reshaping the nose
These injectable treatments don’t last as long as facial plastic surgery, but they are significantly less expensive, provide instant results, and require little to no downtime for recovery.
What To Expect
Our certified injector performs dermal filler treatments during an office visit, rather than needing a trip to the operating room. In certain areas, such as the nasolabial folds, a topical anesthetic is usually enough to keep you comfortable during the injections. Treatments usually take 15 to 30 minutes and you’ll see results immediately.
Depending on the type of filler and the depth at which it is injected, our injector can smooth out fine lines on the surface of the skin, fill in deep lines, augment soft tissues, or even effectively enhance facial bone structure. We offer several advanced dermal fillers and have the training and experience to perform these treatments artfully and effectively.
JUVÉDERM is a filler made using hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance naturally produced by the body. Because it is biocompatible and biodegradable, no allergy testing is needed before treatment and it is harmlessly absorbed by the body over time. JUVÉDERM has a smooth consistency and adds volume and hydration to indentations or wrinkles in the skin. JUVÉDERM is particularly effective for treating the nasolabial folds — the creases that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
Our certified injector injects JUVÉDERM into the mid to deep dermis (the second layer of skin) beneath the fold or crease and it instantly restores volume and smooths indentations. JUVÉDERM® results typically last 9 months or more; however, individual experiences vary.
Like JUVÉDERM, Restylane is a soft tissue filler made with hyaluronic acid that effectively provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane’s consistency makes it an ideal choice for lip augmentation and to diminish wrinkles or acne scars. Treatment involves injecting a small amount of the filler just underneath the wrinkle or skin depression.
One of the most popular treatment areas for dermal fillers is the lips because the results are instant, natural-looking, and reversible.
- Adding or restoring fullness
- Defining the edges, including the cupid’s bow
- Balancing the fullness of the top and bottom lips
- Smoothing away vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines) around the lips
What To Expect
Like other filler treatments, lip injections are performed in our office. Because the lips are a sensitive area, you may require a nerve block to ensure the treatment remains more comfortable than a visit to the dentist. In most cases, patients have minimal discomfort using our compounded numbing cream.
Lip enhancement results are instant, although temporary redness and swelling are normal. Results can last up to 12 months before a maintenance treatment is needed. Actual treatment longevity varies between fillers and patients (some people break down fillers faster than others).
Combining JUVÉDERM and Restylane with other injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can rejuvenate your entire face without surgery. Injectables can also complement a brow lift or facelift. During your consultation, our experienced injector will discuss whether or not combining procedures is right for you.
Dermal Filler FAQ
Which is better, Restylane or JUVÉDERM?
Both are excellent fillers, so the “best” choice depends on your unique needs and cosmetic goals.
Is the treatment safe?
The fillers we use are FDA approved and are completely synthetic, making them safe and a low risk for allergies in properly screened patients.
Is the injection painful?
Most of the fillers we use contain lidocaine for enhanced comfort during injection. If you have concerns, we can use a topical numbing cream as an extra precaution.
At what age should you start getting fillers?
Adults of all ages have filler treatments. Younger people usually want to sculpt the lips, cheeks, chin, and nose. People who want to address signs of aging, such as wrinkles and volume loss, choose fillers for instant rejuvenation and minimal downtime.
What happens if you stop getting fillers?
If you don’t have regular maintenance treatments, your body will gradually absorb the filler and your original concerns will return. The aging process will continue as well.
