Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Before & After Case 158

This 42 year old mother of 3 visited my Southlake plastic surgery office interested in a "Mommy Makeover". Despite exercising 10 hours per week, she was unable to achieve the body she desired. She constantly had to actively hold in her stomach, as it was very stretched out from carrying children (over 60 lbs of weight gain during pregnancy). Discussing her goals, we decided to proceed with an extended abdominoplasty to address her skin excess and abdominal wall laxity and an anchor incision breast lift to address breast droop and asymmetry. We discussed the possibility of later performing a posterior body lift and staged breast augmentation to provide additional tightening to the posterior torso, and upper pole breast volume. (Staging an extended abdominoplasty followed by a posterior body lift allows for the maximal result.)

Surgery proceeded very smoothly and took a little over 5 hours to complete. During the breast lift procedure, I slightly reduced the right side breast volume to improve breast symmetry. The abdominoplasty was remarkable for the significant amount of abdominal wall laxity that was present. I removed 880 gm of abdominal skin, and was surprised that the abdominal muscles were only separated by 4 cm. (I had been expecting more.) There was a significant amount of intrinsic laxity to the abdominal musculature, such that I was able to doubly tighten the abdomen for a total distance of 10 cm. Her first week of recovery was fairly uncomfortable, requiring pain medication for 3 days longer than routine, but otherwise the recovery was uneventful. Because of her strong exercise drive, she has found it hard to “take it easy” and is eager to resume full activities. Photos are taken 6 weeks after surgery, and she is performing 5 hours of non-impact cardio per week. Scars are maturing nicely, and we are planning for the second stage of her “Mommy Makeover.”
